How has your education from Angelo State made an impact on your career?

Henry Jackson playing football in an ASU uniform number 85 A degree from Angelo State University provided me with my first opportunity in leadership management. Additionally, my studies at ASU inspired me to further my education by obtaining a master’s degree in human relations and business, which has opened more opportunities in leadership at a higher level. This eventually led to the role that I currently hold.

I would be remiss to not mention that it all started with my education at Angelo State. So many staff and faculty poured into me educationally and from a life-coaching perspective. The educational value and life lessons shared with me by many coaches have served me well in my career. Angelo State is a place where people go to grow, develop and learn.

What is one of your favorite memories of your time at Angelo State?

Henry Jackson and Roscoe the mascot There is nothing like the annual homecoming football game at ASU! I remember the bonfires and the campus coming together in a spirit of unity right before a big game. Pre-game lunch would include roast beef to carb up before the game and teammates would always chant, “this is our house and no one would be allowed to come in and defeat us!”

The campus always had a family vibe on Sunday, and people would be in front of the dining hall for hours playing frisbee, hackie sack, fellowshipping and relaxing before class on Monday. It was home away from home. There’s no better place to be other than Angelo State. Go Rams!

What inspired you to keep going in your current career?

Henry Jackson in a football uniform talking with a coach Working with kids and families and being able to pour into others is a blessing. Seeing the faces of those that are benefitting, seeing them achieve their goals, and fulfilling their dreams is an amazing experience. I feel blessed to be able to serve those who are vulnerable among us. Why? Because I was once in that situation and Angelo State was there for me at a time when I was vulnerable.

Through the coaches, professors and teammates, Angelo State supported me during this time in my life. I enjoy being able to pay it forward. Now that I have been doing it for a while, it is who I am, and it is my purpose as defined by my life mission statement. I exist to equip, encourage and connect leaders for greater kingdom impact.
